Legislative Update For Immediate Release
June 29, 2022
AB 2840 was presented before the Senate Governance & Finance Committee today, but a vote DID NOT take place. This means that AB 2840 is DEAD for the current legislative cycle. Assemblymember Reyes chose to present the bill even though she knew she did not have the votes. Ms. Reyes made it clear that she will reintroduce a similar bill for the 2023/2024 legislative session. This statement clarifies that while we may have stopped the bill this time, our focus and resolve need to remain.
Through this critical process, we were able to form a tremendous coalition of over 140 organizations, including statewide business groups, local business groups, elected officials, local elected officials, unions, local unions, the CalChamber, all the local Inland Empire Chambers, the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians, NAIOP Chapters throughout California, and more!
I am most proud of our Chapter and the Board of Directors. Your trusted Board of Directors made a bold decision that allowed us to allocate the necessary resources to retain two lobbying firms and public affairs specialists, complementing the efforts already put in place by California Business Properties Association (CBPA). If it wasn’t for that intrepid and quick decision, I do not believe we would have been successful.
We also want to recognize our incredible members and Chapter sponsors. Many of you wrote letters, contacted elected officials, and testified at today’s hearing. Thank you for your invaluable support of our Chapter and the industry throughout California.
The residual effect of this effort is that we are better prepared for the fight that is right around the corner. We look forward to working with our members, sponsors, and industry partners!
Sincerely,
Jason Korengold
Chapter President
